Not large enough or ideal for rats, but it was only used as a temporary cage. Rats need a lot of room to climb and play but would definitely be plenty of room for a hamster or something small like that. Pretty easy to put together, I did it in about an hour. Easy to clean since the entire lid opens and bottom pan slides out. Overall great for what it I needed it for.
We bought this for our guineas at school and setup was not hard. The wood is cheap, but we have yet to have any issues. Cleaning is harder, but I think it helps to ensure a deep clean every time. We needed certain dimensions in order for it to fit on the shelf so our choices were limited. Our guineas love it and they get a bigger cage. It is very hard to get them out of the right side but I can¡¯t blame that on the manufacturer, because we have ours on a shelf. We put pads down below the bedding so that smells didn¡¯t get in the wood. The windows are thin plastic and came scratched but that didn¡¯t bother us. Our students are happy to now be able to see them and talk to them on their level. It came with a wooden toy for them to chew on, but they aren¡¯t very interested in it. Ours personally love toys with bells in them, but it may just be ours.Overall, we¡¯re happy with the purchase and the price of it. All purchases have ups and downs, but for the most part, it¡¯s a decent purchase.
