As you known, most of wooden chicken coops are designed to be off the ground, it’s the popular design. Is it necessary to do this? Yes, we think designing in this style brings many benefits:

1.Moisture proof   If you live in a rainy environment, high level of moisture can accelerate the corrosion of wood, and mold or dangerous bacteria will start to grow. And when your chickens get back into the coop, as they walk on the ramp, it will reduce excess rain, keeping the coop inside a bit drier than outside.

2.Provide shade for chickens  If you are in hot sunny area , having a cool place is important to your chickens, it will avoid your chickens suffering from overheating.

3.staying protected from predators. If your coop is built at ground level, predators like mice, rats, and snakes will easily access to your chickens and kill them, what’s more, they may spread the disease to your chickens. But, if your chicken house is above the ground, it will be much harder for predators to break in.
