FAQs
What size catio works best for multiple cats?
For multi-cat households, look for:
- Walk-in height of 70" or more
- At least 5 to 8 climbing platforms
- Two or more dedicated resting areas
PETSCOSSET's extra-large outdoor cat enclosures cover all three. Modular designs let you connect two units if your household grows.
Are these catios predator-proof against raccoons, coyotes, and birds of prey?
Yes. Every catio outdoor cat enclosure uses heavy-gauge rust-resistant wire mesh and lockable doors to block predators. The fully enclosed structure prevents entry from above and below, making it a reliable barrier against common backyard threats.
Can a walk-in catio attach directly to a house door or wall?
PETSCOSSET catios for outdoor cats are designed for freestanding backyard and patio use rather than direct wall attachment. For indoor-to-outdoor access, pair one with a cat door installed in your wall or sliding door.
How long does it take to assemble a large multi-level catio?
Most PETSCOSSET outdoor cat enclosures are designed for quick setup, typically taking 25 to 45 minutes with one or two people. All holes are pre-drilled, parts are labeled, and only a standard screwdriver is needed. No power tools or prior DIY experience required.
Do catio models on wheels lock in place?
On models that include casters, yes. Locking wheels keep the unit stable during daily use. Unlock them when repositioning, then re-lock once the catio is settled. Check the individual product page to confirm whether a specific model includes wheels.
Do catios include platforms and accessories, or are those sold separately?
Here is what is included in most models:
- 5 to 8 climbing platforms
- 2 built-in sleeping condos
- Lockable entry doors
Items sold separately:
- Hammocks
- Scratching posts
Can a catio be expanded later?
Yes. PETSCOSSET catios for outdoor cats use a modular design that lets you connect two units side by side or in an L-shape, doubling the space with just a standard screwdriver and no extra hardware needed.
Are these catios suitable for cold climates like the Midwest or Northeast?
Yes, with some seasonal prep. The fir wood frame and waterproof asphalt roof handle rain and moderate cold well. For harsher winters:
- Place the catio in a sheltered, wind-blocked spot
- Add weatherproof siding panels for extra insulation
This keeps your outdoor cat enclosure comfortable year-round.
Do these catios need a concrete foundation?
No foundation required. Catios for outdoor cats sit directly on grass, dirt, gravel, or a patio surface. For added stability on uneven ground, leveling the base with pavers or composite tiles is a straightforward option.
How do I keep my cat from slipping out when I open the door?
Step fully inside the catio and secure the outer door before opening any interior access point. This two-step entry method is the most reliable way to prevent escapes.
